Good Friday marks the death of Jesus Christ and the beginning of the Easter Holiday. While Christians around the world observe the death of Christ today, it is His resurrection on Sunday that is the foundation of the Christian faith. John 3:16 perfectly captures the essence of this faith and the significance of these three days:
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.In Christ's resurrection our hope is found that in the end even death itself will be defeated. Easter is a celebration of the power of love to conquer death. As Henry Knox Sherrill observed, "the joyful news that He is risen does not change the contemporary world. Still before us lie work, discipline, sacrifice. But the fact of Easter gives us the spiritual power to do the work, accept the discipline, and make the sacrifice."
